Communication from School District re: safety situation

Thank you to the district, for posting an update regarding what a new safety situation on their website.

Please note this is not unique to Prince George – these clown threat “pranks” have been spreading all over North America. See: https://www.google.ca/webhp?sourceid=chrome-instant&ion=1&espv=2&ie=UTF-8#q=clown+threat+pranks&tbm=nws

The district has numerous protocols for ensuring student safety. Ensuring that the district communicates about these protocols is appreciated by parents.

9:20 a.m.

In continuing dialogue with RCMP, Senior Administration was advised to hold and secure all Secondary Schools located in Prince George.  Information leading to this decision was coming to officials as most staff and students were either on their way to school or having just arrived.

Secondary Prince George Schools were called to move into a Code Red response.  This was determined to be the most effective way to quickly ensure safety of students and staff.

At approximately 9:10 a.m. the effected schools were advised that they could move into a Code Yellow response.

Code Yellow requires students to be in classrooms with closed doors.  Outside doors are locked.  Staff monitor exits with only supervised entrance and exit of students and parents as is necessary.

School District No. 57 (Prince George) is in direct communication with RCMP.

Updated information will appear on our website as it becomes available.

Safety of students and staff remains our first priority.

Continued appreciation to staff, students and community for cooperation and support during this process.

Marilyn Marquis-Forster,
Superintendent of Schools

10:05 update:

RCMP investigators determined that the threats received were non-credible and in some cases outdated.  The recommendation that coded safety measures within Prince George high schools be lifted was received by School District No. 57 officials from our local RCMP, at approximately 10:05 this morning. Consequently, effected schools were advised to move into Code Green, normal operations.

We have been assured that RCMP Officers will continue to investigate and will provide a heightened presence around schools today.  School District No. 57 remains in communication with local Police.
