SUMMARY:IEP's for Real Life Facilitated by Carly Eirikson
DESCRIPTION:Our DPAC is pleased to share an upcoming parent workshop \nFrom IEP Goals to Real Life: Supporting Your Child Without Turning Home Into School \n \n  \n📅 Date: Thursday\, February 19\, 2026\n⏰ Time: 6:30–8:00 pm\n📍 Location: Live on Zoom (link below) \nIEP goals are written for school\, but families live in many contexts. This parent-friendly workshop helps families translate IEP goals into realistic support at home\, and introduces how AI can be used as a supportive tool to help parents generate ideas and plan next steps. \nIn this session\, parents and caregivers will: \n\nbetter understand what IEP goals may actually be asking for\nidentify one or two meaningful priorities that make sense at home\nexplore practical\, low-pressure ways to support learning without added stress\nlearn ethical ways AI can support parent planning and thinking\nhave time for questions and discussion\n\nThe session is facilitated by Carly Eirikson\, who works in inclusive education and school leadership and has experience supporting families as a learning support teacher and educational consultant. \nThis workshop is intended to be supportive and informative. It does not replace therapy\, medical advice\, or school-based decision-making\, and does not include individual consultation. \nZoom link: https://us06web.zoom.us/j/82791972357?pwd=W8ABbPLZpXhrICowHmRzA1KNz20lTM.1\n\n \nWe hope you can join us.

SUMMARY:Before and After School Care (BASC)
DESCRIPTION:Before and After School Care (BASC) from CUPE is hopefully implementing a new program in our district. We are hosting a presentation from the National Representative from CUPE to get a better understanding of the program. \nMonday\, February 24th 2025\n6:30pm – 7:30pm\nIf interested please email us for the MS Teams link : info@sd57dpac.ca\n\nSeamless Childcare Now FAQs [Download Here] \nCUPE BC\, with more than 100\,000 members working in communities across the province\, has been working to make public childcare a reality for B.C. families for more than two years. We are advocating for this because access to safe\, affordable\, and reliable childcare changes lives. It allows parents to get back into the workforce\, provides stability and support to kids\, allows families to save and earn more\, and expands the labour market in ways that supports the delivery of many important services. \nRecent investments by the British Columbian government demonstrate a strong commitment to a system of affordable childcare. However\, fee reductions and the expansion of $10/day spaces help only those parents who can find open spaces for their kids. While families struggle to find the childcare they need\, a great option exists that would very quickly create thousands of new safe\, reliable\, and affordable childcare spaces in communities across British Columbia: adding before- and after-school care inside schools\, run by school districts\, using existing school staff and spaces. \nSuch a model integrates childcare and public education\, creating a seamless experience for kids\, parents\, educators\, and communities. This model—which includes the Seamless Day for younger years—is among the highest regarded systems for early learning and care around the world. \nCUPE BC’s vision for seamless childcare in B.C. schools is supported by the Coalition of Childcare Advocates of BC\, the Hospital Employees’ Union\, the BC Federation of Students\, the Centre for Family Equity (formerly the Single Mothers’ Alliance of BC)\, the BC Teachers’ Federation\, BC Building Trades\, and the City of Vancouver.

SUMMARY:Parent & Public SD57 Budget Input for 2024/2025 School Year
DESCRIPTION:The Board of Education is inviting feedback from the public regarding 2024/2025 budget priorities in order to inform the budget process. The 2024/25 Annual Budget is prepared over several months and completed in June. The district is projected to receive $199 million in revenue of which 95% comes from the Provincial Government. Of the revenue received\, currently 85% is spent on operating\, administering and maintaining the schools and district facilities.  There is currently an operating budget shortfall of approximately $2 million dollars.  The Board is therefore considering reductions to expenses for its submission of a balanced budget to the Ministry of Education and Child Care. \nThe Board’s focus is to ensure available resources support the Strategic Plan and student success. Further information on the 2024/25 draft budget is available here. \n2024/2025 Annual Budget feedback may be submitted in the following ways: \n\n\nSurvey on the district website – open from April 18 to May 3\, 2024\n\n\nLivestream meeting – April 23\, 2024 – 7:00 pm *\n\n\nEmail: budget@sd57.bc.ca\n\n\nMail: 2100 Ferry Ave\, Prince George\, BC V2L 4R5\n\n\n*The link for the livestream meeting will be posted to the school district’s website prior to the meeting.
