1. Call to order and Adoption of Agenda – Add Lice to 8. (c)
Adopted with changes by unanimous consent.
2. Adoption of September 2013 Minutes-
Adopted by unanimous consent.
3. PAC Networking – Introductions
• College Heights Elementary – discussion of PAC member volunteers
• Duchess Park- discussion of PAC member turnout
• Heather Park- discussion of fundraising and engaging parents and admin. First day of school cafe provided muffins (school/PAC) and had booths set up and welcome pkgs
• Ecole Lac Des Bois- discussion of PAC member volunteers
• Hart Highlands- provide info to new PAC members (ie: gaming info)
• Spruceland- PAC mtg had a presentation about Radon in homes. Discussion about counselor position.
• Nusdeh Yoh- discussion of PAC member turnout.
• Nukko Lake- Safety around traffic and school buses. Silent auction. Discussion about getting new people out
4. Partner Group Presentations
(a) DSAC Report- Two new DSAC reps announced today through email to DPAC Chair. Graeme MacKenzie (KRSS) and Shelby Miller (DPSS).
(b) CUPE Report – (Karen Wong) Regrets.
(c) PGDTA Report – (Tina Cousins) Spoke to report. World teacher day on the 5th. Plan to meet at Hummus Boy to celebrate teachers and the job they do. Finishing up at Supreme Court. Bill 22 was the remedy. Not in agreement with it. Court will finalize in November. Class size and composition is still a topic of concern.
(d) PGPVPA Report – (Faith MacKay) Spoke to report . Nusdeh Yoh: Leadership Academy and Hockey prgm started up, preparing hides to to scrape. PGSS: Parent teacher night, Early dismissal, Open House, Polar performing Arts, Project based learning. CHSS: Anti-bullying and harassment training. Blackburn: Parking Lot Party. Giscome: Preparing for 2 modular classrooms.
(e) PEA Report – (Nicole Haines) – Not in attendance.
(f) Superintendent Report – (Brian Pepper)- Spoke to his report. World Teacher’s day. Enrollment. Learning Improvement Fund. BC Education plan. Erase Bullying. Transformation.
(g) Trustee Report – (Kate Cooke)- Spoke to her report. Public Board meeting: Management and Finance. Education services Committee . Policy and Governance Committee.
5. Officer and Committee Reports
aa) Finacial review of DPAC records by School Trustee Kate Cooke. Everything looked good to Kate.
a) Executive Board Report (Sarah Holland) – Spoke to her report. Attached in October agenda package. ACTION: Reminder – Sarah please change format of Executive Board Report.
b) Treasurers Report (Gillian Burnett) – Attached in October agenda package. Discussion of change for recuperating travel subsidies and paying out per diems.
c) BCCPAC Report- Darlene Campbell. Spoke to her report. Info on November Conference and speakers. Anti- bullying full day session. Printer delay for planners and publications. Report on DPAC website.
d) Election- vacant Executive position. Election- Michelle Yon from Hart Highlands volunteered for Director position. All in agreement. Michelle Yon – new DPAC Director.
6. PAC and Parent Assistance
a) Budget and Grants – 2013/2014 MOTION: (Gillian Burnett Treasurer) Accept DPAC 2013/14 Budget as circulated. 2nd by Duchess Park (Darlene Campbell). All in agreement. Motion Carried. b) Fall Conference- October 19, 2013. Keynote speaker Kerri Isham. Another speaker for BC Education and graduation requirements coming. Info on DPAC website.
c) Food Safe workshop – Scheduled November 9, 2013 at Van Bien Training Center 8:30am-5pm. DPAC will pay $600 for the course. It will be $20 per person. Max 20.
7. Advising School District
a) Education Services report (Steve Shannon and Dennis Fudge as alternate) – Report in Executive Board report in October 2013 agenda pkg.
b) EPPC Committee Report (Chris Finke and Darlene Campbell) – Darlene Spoke to her report. Physical and Fundamental Movement. Next meeting Oct 22, 2013. Report on DPAC website.
c) Policy and Governance report (Sarah Holland and Chris Finke) – Sarah spoke to her report. Policy 5119. Attached in October agenda pkg.
d) Expanded Committee of the Whole ( Gillian Burnett & Sarah Holland)- Hasn’t met yet.
e) Calender Committee- (Darlene and Gillian)
f) Suggestions for School Board Report (Sarah Holland)- Please email Sarah with ideas.
8. Other Business
a) Email discussion of events and updates outside of meetings. Discussion.
b) BCCPAC Conference November 15-17-expressions of interest. Email DPAC Chair or Exec if interested.
c) Lice- Policy in the school district for parents doing lice checks.
9. Agenda items for next meeting… Health concerns that we may want to bring forward to school board (ie: head lice).
Meeting adjourned at 9:40 pm.
Next meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 4, 2013 at 7:00pm Van Bien training and Development Center.
