PAC Triumphs
As people involved in PACs and our schools, we sometimes fail to recognize all the great accomplishments that we all do. This page is dedicated to all the volunteers and the great projects that they have completed.
If you have any triumphs you would like listed please submit them to webmaster@sd57dpac.ca
One of the major goals of most PACs, starting in the 2006/2007 school year was to replace their playgrounds. Please check out these pictures of their achievements. There have been various cheque presentations for the playgrounds and they are now inside of the pictures area as well.
Major good day in Prince George !

Eleven Schools in Prince George received a total of $168,700 towards their playground replacement. Minister of Education Shirley Bond, Pat Bell Prince George North MLA and John Rustad Prince George-Omenica MLA were present along with parents and children from the majority of the PACs receiving funds. Superintendent of Schools Brian Pepper, Lyn Hall Trustee Chair and Trustee Roxanne Riccard were also present. The full news release of the event is available. This is the first round of funds provided by Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General. It should be noted that $1.5 Million is being provided this year, up from the original $1 million announcement. There will be two more years of this program providing and expected $1 million dollars each year towards playground replacement.
A group of dedicated parents formed a committee one and
half years ago in Prince George with the lofty goal of replacing 22
playgrounds
and through the group efforts did fundraising, shared ideas,
solicited grants and worked with the government to
get the various
Ministries on board with the project. This group of parents have an
amazing leader who at any moment will tell you it was a group effort
and everyone deserves the praise, but without her tirelessly
organizing, pursuing the government and working with the school
district on our behalf it would truly be harder for the individual
schools to have accomplished what has been done. It is felt her
efforts also facilitated the government in seeing the need to
provide funding to the entire province for playgrounds. The efforts
of BCCPAC was a stimulus as well no doubt. Just two
short years ago at the first Parent Congress Minister Bond said "
No government before us has funded school playground replacement and we will never fund playgrounds for schools" and now stage has been
set for some funding. One parent can make a difference ! One parent
can motivate many parents to accomplish amazing things.
It must be mentioned that the Trustees, the Board of Education in SD 57 and all of its staff have worked with the parents in a most collegial way to accomplish this as well. They are truly a great representation of how a school board should operate.

The Playground Replacement Committee has been very busy and in October 2007 a presentation to the school board trustees was given by Trish Bella and Marilyn Langlois. A windows media copy of the presentation is available below.
